Enrichment

At Rainford CE, having high standards and supporting our children to reach their full academic potential is extremely important; however, we also believe that learning is so much more than attainment: it is a myriad of attitudes, emotions, beliefs and skills.

Learning new skills and participating in new experiences benefits our children. It not only helps them to develop confidence and social skills from a young age, but is critical as our children’s brains are developing so rapidly at this age. Research shows that learning art, music and other enrichment skills can help children excel in many ways.

The famous CE talent show, film nights, celebrating theme days, representing the Youth Council and the town swimming gala are just a few ways in which we enrich the lives of our children.

Extra Curricular Clubs

We have a variety of different clubs and opportunities for all our children to participate in and enjoy. Here are just some of what we include:

  • St Helens Sport's Enrichment Offer

  • Choir

  • Rocksteady

  • Multi-Sports

  • Netball

Inspiration Days

Each term, we plan an exciting day for the whole school linked to one of more subjects of the National Curriculum. This days provides an opportunity to learn in an innovative and creative way outside of the typical learning experiences in the classroom. They inspire our children to engage with curriculum topics and create memorable ways of to learn without leaving school. Last year we had, 'Rockstar Day' linked to music and PSHE and an 'Olympic Day linked to history and P.E.

School Pets

We are very fortunate to have wonderful school pets at Rainford CE. We have four chickens that live in the Reception playground and four guinea pigs who are live very happily in classrooms and the main corridor so all of our children can benefit from them.

We believe our school pets can encourage children's learning needs, especially in reading, communication, observation and speaking. Our pets have helped children develop emotional skills like empathy and social skills. They have also been a great support for children who are struggling to settle into school and for children with special educational needs.

Essential Experiences

The development of a child’s cultural capital is at the heart of our curriculum as we believe that all children should be given a wide range of experiences to help them develop both socially and academically. Cultural capital can be defined as the accumulation of essential knowledge needed to be educated citizens to engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement. Therefore, our non-negotiable list of essential experiences are to empower our pupils’ learning and deepen their knowledge of both curriculum and non-curriculum content. Please take a moment to read out Essential Experience document which maps our these experience throughout the whole school.
