Nurture Spaces

At Rainford CE, we are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for all our pupils. We understand that every child is unique and may have different needs when it comes to their learning and emotional well-being. That's why we have created bespoke rooms around the school to support pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The Nurture Nest

The Nurture Nest is a small sensory room that is available for all children during the day who need additional support with their emotional and mental health.

The Nurture Nest benefits:

  • Sensory Stimulation: The Nest provides children with opportunities for sensory exploration and stimulation, helping them to regulate their sensory experiences and improve their ability to focus and concentrate.

  • Calming Environment: The soothing atmosphere of the Nest can help students to feel more relaxed and less anxious, promoting a sense of well-being and emotional regulation.

  • Improved Concentration: By engaging with sensory activities, students can improve their ability to concentrate, process information, and participate more fully in learning activities.

  • Emotional Regulation: The Nest provides students with strategies and techniques to help them regulate their emotions and manage stress and anxiety more effectively.

Tree House

The Nurture Space, based in the Treehouse, is available for all children throughout the whole school day to provide a place where children can practice sharing, turn taking, communication and cooperation in a guided setting, modelling positive interactions in a relaxed and supportive environment. During breaktimes, the activities provided include games, creative play and cooperative tasks which aim to help children to develop key social and emotional skills, led by a trusted adult.

Our children benefit from:

  • Emotional Regulation - Children are supported in recognising and managing their emotions, with adults offering guidance on how to respond to frustration, excitement or disappointment during break times.

  • A Structured Play Environment - the Nurture Space provides structure and a quiet environment which helps reduce anxiety and uncertainty for children who are not comfortable in more open-ended environments.

  • Support During Unstructured Times- since playtime can be a challenging time for some children, the  Nurture Space provides a safe environment for them to engage in activities with adult supervision and guidance.

  • Positive Relationships - the group fosters positive relationships between peers and adults, allowing children to build trust and confidence in their social interactions.

  • Emotional Security - there is a safe, caring, child-centered approach,  where children feel valued and understood. The emotional well-being of the children is recognised as a foundation for all other development.
